Kedar Kanta Trek

Description : The trek which starts at Sankhri is best described as a poetry of meadows, flowers and vistas of snowcapped mountain peaks. After the rains, this trek is a botanist's paradise with the bugyals turning into prolific wildflower beds, which the locals feel is their answer to the Valley of Flowers. The first halt on the route about 4 km from Sankhri is Juda Talab a small lake amidst woods, picture perfect for camping. Day 2 calls for a reasonable amount of trekking uphill (about 5 km) to the huge bugyal at the base of Kedarkanta. On a clear day this is a vantage point to view the Changsheel range. If one is not engrossed with the exotic flora, there is ample opportunity to enjoy a spectacular sunset here. A short climb on Day 3 takes one to the cairns at the summit which is a gateway to the long green ridge walk that offers 360 deg. views of nearby villages, the peaks of Swargarohini, Black Peak, Baraadsar and Bandar Poonch as well as breathtaking views of the valley below. The walk (about 6km) leads to the campsite at Dhunda. The final leg of the trek (about 8km) to Sankhri traverses little waterfalls and dense forest that are a complete contrast to the ridge and the bugyals. There are no rest houses on the route.
